Liberal Bullshit Media..

OK.. So everybody knows that the Media is Liberal, Demoncrap (Democrat), and will dramatically alter the facts to sell paper..

So, the AP and New York Post have reported that Murders are up by a HUGE amount in New York, and other major cities.. Yea.. Whatever.

In fact, they are up. Houston has report an increase in murders.. But that could be due to the tens of thousands of Katrina refugees still housed in that city. If you look at the murders per capita, they're murder rate is down.

New York.. Ah, the hot bed of Socialism in the United States.. They deserve a blog all to themselves. So, they're murder rate is up 10%, and they have no Katrina Refugees.. So it's all Bush's fault. End of Story. Right?

Not by a long shot.
Let's look at the murder rate in New York over the last 15 years, thanks to the lovely folks over at the Disaster Center. 15 years should give us a pretty good trend line.. And just to make it interesting, let's look at that population, just to see if IT might have any effect what so ever.
  • 1991 - Population 18,058,000 - Murders 2,571
  • 1992 - Population 18,119,000 - Murders 2,397
  • 1993 - Population 18,197,000 - Murders 2,420
  • 1994 - Population 18,169,000 - Murders 2,016
  • 1995 - Population 18,136,000 - Murders 1,550
  • 1996 - Population 18,185,000 - Murders 1,353
  • 1997 - Population 18,137,000 - Murders 1,093
  • 1998 - Population 18,175,000 - Murders 924
  • 1999 - Population 18,196,601 - Murders 903
  • 2000 - Population 18,976,457 - Murders 952
  • 2001 - Population 19,084,350 - Murders 960
  • 2002 - Population 19,134,293 - Murders 909
  • 2003 - Population 19,212,425 - Murders 934
  • 2004 - Population 19,280,727 - Murders 889
  • 2005 - Population 19,254,630 - Murders 874

Just for comparison..

1965 - Population 18,073,000 - Murders 836

So with 1.2 million MORE people, the murder rate is almost the same as it was in the 1960's.. These are the figures for the ENTIRE state of New York, however seeing how 99% of the crime is centered there, it works for us.

So murders, ON THE WHOLE, have been DECLINING for the last 15 years. That's through 3 presidents, a huge number of anti AND Pro gun legislation, 2 terrorist attacks, I don't know how many Governors, 6 FBI investigations into the NY PD, and a Partridge in a Pear Tree.

When are they going to learn. It doesn't help to make GUNS illegal, we need stiffer penalties. AND, with good police work, you can make a difference! The media wrote that report, wanting you to believe that the murder rate going up this year is some sort of HUGE deal! They could go up by 100%, and it still wouldn't be as high as it was in 1994! This is what they call RESPONSIBLE writing.

Freaking Socialists.

Karma..

So about 7 or 8 months ago, my backpack I carried EVERYTHING in went missing. I chalked it up to some young punk breaking into my Jeep, and snagging it.

Contents were more of the sentimental value, rather than monetary value.

However, 2 of the items were my Hewlett Packard 48gx Graphing Calculator, and my Wiley X Sunglasses. Those items I truly missed. I had that calculator all through college (all 7 years) and I loved it! Damn kids.

Fast forward 8 months.

Tonight I get a phone call..

Caller: "Did you loose backpack?"
Me: "YES!!"
Caller: "What does it look like?"
Me: "Blue and Black."
Caller: "What's inside it?"
Me.. Well, you get the idea.

Turns out, this guy found it on a freeway overpass, 8 months ago, threw it in his truck, and forgot all about it.

It must have fallen out of my construction truck during the period this summer when I was working nights..

So, I drove north and met him and got back my long lost pack, all the contents just as they were 8 months ago.. I thanked him profusely over and over, wished him a Merry Christmas, and gave him a nice finders fee.

On the way home, some drunk asshole nearly ran us off the freeway.

Just goes to show you, no good deed goes unpunished.
Freakin Karma..

Poop..

The Virgin Mary. The three kings. A few wayward sheep. These are the figures one expects to find in a traditional Christmas nativity scene. Not a smartly dressed peasant squatting behind a rock with his rear-end exposed.

Yet statuettes of "El Caganer," or the great defecator in the Catalan language, can be found in nativity scenes, and increasingly on the mantelpieces of collectors, throughout Spain's northeastern Catalonia region, where for centuries symbols of defecation have played an important role in Christmas festivities.

Do a Google Image search for "El Caganer"..

Toasts..

Here are some great toasts, Originally posted by Michelle C.
Here's to a long life and a merry one,
A quick death and an easy one,
A pretty girl and an honest one,
A cold beer and another one!

May those who love us, love us.
And for those who don't love us, May God turn their hearts.
And if he can not turn their hearts, May he turn their ankles,
So we my know them by their limping.

And if you really want to confuse your guests, try this!
Here's to all those that I love.
Here's to all those that love me.
And here's to all those that love those that I love,
And all those that love those that love me.

Last but not least, one for our troops.
To the glasses left empty in bar rooms and homes,
To canteens in combat and the tomb of the unknowns.
We raise our hands in the glory you gave,
Land of the Free and Home of the Brave!

Amen.

WTF??

This comes from a friend of mine named JD.. A True Story of just how Moronic Some people are..

"Bozo criminal for today comes from Portland, Oregon where bozo Jason Klein was zipping through town at speeds exceeding 100 MPH. In spite of this, he failed to attract the attention of a single cop. He then rammed his car into a police cruiser, backed up and hit it again. This got the attention of the police and he was placed under arrest. Which brings up the question of why he rammed the cop car in the first place. He told officers he was mad because no one had given him a speeding ticket. He has several tickets now."

Oh My Gawd...
Excuse me while I go laugh my ass off!!

Another Freakin Rescue..

Don't even get me started about this. How is it that 100 resucer's can climb the freakin mountain in the worst weather we have had in the last 15 years, and NOBODY gets hurt, lost, or needed a snowcave.. These "Professionals" go up and now my Brothers and Sisters over at PMR gotta go up and pull another stiff off the mountain.

Please don't misunderstand.. My deepest sympathies go out to the families of the missing climbers..

My thoughts are with all the SAR Teams up there.. Including the guys from MY team. Be safe!

Tip of the Week..

RULE OF THREE'S

You can Survive..
3 Minutes without air / 3 Minutes with Severe Bleeding
3 hours without shelter (In extreme conditions like a snow storm or intense desert heat)
3 Days without Water
3 Weeks wothout Food

The Kim family had very little food.. But they had air, no injuries, shelter in the car, snow to melt for water.. They could have easily survived another 2 weeks. Fact of the matter is, if he had been even resonably prepared, or had one clue about what he was doing, James Kim would still be alive.

He saw himself as a Hero, going out to bring help, and save the day! Heroics and Bravado like that are what killed him, not the snow.

They had the right idea.. They had road flares, they were burning tires. How tough would it have been to grab some tree limbs, build up the fire, and wait? Melt snow in the Aluminum cans they had, and JUST FREAKIN WAIT!!!

**Putting soapbox away**

Class Dismissed

Dec. 7th, 1941

"..December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."
-Franklin D. Roosevelt
December 8th, 1941 to Congress

From the Navy Archives..
"On that fateful day, the Japanese Navy secretly sent aircraft over Oahu in two massive waves. Of 96 warships present in Pearl Harbor, 18 of the major ones were sunk or damaged.."

DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY -- NAVAL HISTORICAL CENTER
Let's all remember the Hero's who gave their lives that day, and everyday after, so that we could enjoy OUR freedom.

"No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God."

This is how FDR ended his speech to Congress. Still fitting today.

Our Boys and Girls are still fighting the good fight "Over There". Have you said "Thanks" to a Soldier, Airman, Marine, Sailor or Coast Guardsman lately?

"For Those on Eternal Patrol.. Thank You, We will NEVER Forget.."

Admit you are stuck.. Wait for help.. Eat the 6 month old McDonald's french fries stuck under the seat..

My heart goes out to the Kim Family in this time of loss..
My admiration goes out to my Brothers and Sisters in the SAR Teams that worked so hard.. You did an OUTSTANDING job guys!

Breast Feeding..

My family has always believed in breast feeding babies. It is the best and healtiest wway to feed the new little miracle in your life. I had no idea there were sooo many people who oppose it!Around here, people are "crunchy" enough to know it's best, and we don't hear much about it. However, nationwide, it is a HUGE hot topic!

Apparently a woman was actually booted off a major airline for nursing, and so nursing mothers around the US staged a protest a their ticket counters.. HERE is that story.

And now it come out that the missing family in Oregon.. The wife kept here kids alive by NURSING THEM!! Check it out..

Why can't people just leave well enough alone?

Tip of the week..

If you have been watching the TV show "Jericho" you may have noticed that there are a few in-consistencies. This is true for any TV show, but there is one particular in-consistency that needs to be addressed.

In an emergency, the first sign of trouble is usually a power-outage. No lights, no TV, no warning system, nada.

TIP: Go buy your wife a truckload of candles! They make her happy, and give us piece of mind that the candles can provide light when the power is out!
(Pick up a couple of "Forever" flashlights and a crank radio as well. Total cost.. About $85 with shipping)

Win-win situation!

Dumb ass criminals..

FACT: criminals are not usually the brightest people on the planet..
FACT: A 4 year old in a Power ranger Costume can scare them away..

?WTF?

Yup, it's true. In North Carolina, a youngsters parents were being held at gunpoint. The boy slipped out, dressed in his Power Rangers costume, grabbed his plastic sword, and attacked! The would-be bandits were so startled, they took off!

Check out the story here..

I'm off to go buy a Power Rangers costume..

Knife Monkey..

Since I was off duty today, and we got the first DUSTING of snow, I felt the urge to go out and abuse some INFI!

Ahhhh... I feel soooo much better!

Busy..

When I got hired Part-time, the Chief gave me a deadline to finish my taskbook.. I have 1 month left, and am about 2 pages away from being done. With all the hours I am scheduled, it shouldn't be a problem..

We went to the Dr on Monday.. We are having a GIRL!! Samantha Marie.. I'll have to teach her how to be a good American.. Hunt, fish, beat-up boys, the usual.

I have been replacing some of my rescue gear lately. I was on a mission, and had my vest go "Tango Uniform" on me. Luckly I carry some hasty repair items, but it was still no fun. So, I ordered this from specialforces.com :

It's very nice, completely adjustable and padded where it needs to be!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Here's a recipe for ya..

1 whole turkey
1 large lemon, cut into half
sprig of rosemary
salt and pepper to taste
butter or olive oil, whichever you prefer

Heat oven to 350 degrees Rub butter or oil over the skin of the turkey until it is completely coated. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and any other seasonings you prefer. Take a knife and gently separate the skin from the breast meat; Slide lemon halves under the skin with the peel side up, one on each side. This way the juice from the lemon will release into the breasts. Place sprig of rosemary into the turkey. Cover and bake for 30-45 minutes. Remove cover and continue to roast until juices run clear, basting every 15-20 minutes.

If you've followed these steps correctly, your turkey should look like the one in the picture.

So, Mr. Dipshit.. I mean, Mr. Kerry made several disparaging comments regarding the intelligence of the Soldiers in Iraq..

They have replied..

Gotta love those guys!

Work, work, work..

I have said in the past, that I am the hardest working Un-Employed guy that I know..

That's not exactly right..

I teach CPR/First Aid for a local School District Community Program..
I also teach CPR/First Aid for a private company.. These 2 "jobs" would bring home a little play money.. Maybe $400 a month.
Plus the Volunteer Work I did for the Fire Dept and the Search and Rescue Team.

But now, I am about to be Employed in every sense of the word! Just 3 more days!

I have a question..
Why do people, who are in a perfectly good relationship, feel it's necessary to sabotage it by changing it or convincing themselves that there HAS to be something wrong??

I have noticed this trend in some of the TV shows we follow, and have seen it in my friends. Why can't good people just accept that they do deserve the good person they are with?

My wife says it's because people refuse to "give up any control" they have in their lives.

huh..

So people intentionally ruin a perfectly good relationship because they can't let somebody else have a little control? PEOPLE.. It's a 2-way street! You get a little control over them, they get a little over you! It's kinda nice! I like it.. It tickles..

bah.. NEXT!

I have a new signature line on my email. It reads:

"Of every 100 men in battle, 10 should not even be here. 80 are nothing more than targets. 9 of them are fighters, we are lucky to have them, they the battle make.ah, but the one. One of them is a warrior.. And he will bring the others back."

Sticking with the Skydiving Theme..

No idea who she is.. But she's a redhead, with Tig ol Bittys!

More Remains..

More remains of Hero's at 9/11 Site have been recovered.

NEVER FORGET.

Skydiving..

Saturday a BASE Jumper was killed when he pulled his chute late..

Huh..

Now, being a skydiver, I can tell you, the MOST IMPORTANT RULE is to PULL YOUR FREAKIN CHUTE!!!

This is the hand signal for PULL YOUR GODDAMNED 'CHUTE!

They hammer that into you from day 1. As a BASE jumper, he should have KNOWN exactly how long he needed. These guys have HUNDREDS of jumps under their belts. In the skydiving community, that's not alot, but it's enough that he should have known. My heart goes out to his family for their loss. However, but this guy, through his carelessness, could do great harm to the Sport of Skydiving, and BASE Jumping, specifically.

Survival..

So I got word that I was accepted into the "Aircrew Survival Training - Class 0602"!

This should prove interesting.. I will be gone 4 and a half days. The first day and a half are academic, with the following 3 spent in the mountains. They have given us a "List of Supplies" that we are to bring, and a list of "Prohibited Items". The prohibited items are things like GPS, Tents, Sleeping bags, ground pads, stoves, etc. The idea is to use the materials at hand to create a shelter that will afford you some measure of comfort and warmth.

Should be fun!

Survival..

So I was asked to teach another survival class at FAS this year. You may (or may not) remember I taught there last year. The one complaint I received was that there was no portion of the class dedicated to butchering animals. The students believed that they should have been taught how to butcher a rabbit or a chicken or something. This year, we listened, and brought 9 New Zealand Rabbits for the class to butcher.

PHOTO WARNING. THIS IMAGE IS VERY GRAPHIC, BY CLICKING ON THIS LINK, YOU ARE EXPESSING YOUR DESIRE TO SEE THIS PICTURE!

Now I only kill things that are:
A. Actively trying to kill me, or a member of my immediate family
B. Things I intend to eat

These rabbits fell into the later catagory. We got them cleaned up, and chilled, then enjoyed them that night with a little salt and pepper, cooked over an honest to goodness campfire.

At the end, everybody had a good time, and EVERYBODY wanted to know if we could do an advanced class in spring.. Sweet..

Pin Up Pic..

So today we have, not an all American beauty, but a BRIT!!

Oi!

PIG Pic..

So I have kinda fallen in love with revolvers here lately. I don't know why. They are not all that accurate, most hold only 5 rounds, they're a bitch to reload quickly, and most are chambered in the under-powered .38 spl.. That being said, I love 'em!

Allow me to introduce the Smith and Wesson Model 36 "Chiefs Special" .38 spl Snub Nose Revolver.
SPECS:
Type: Double Action
Chamber: .38 Spl
Weight unloaded (with 2 inch barrels): All steel models - 650 - 700g
Capacity: 5 rounds (.357 Magnum and .38 Spl)

A little history from the web:

Smith & Wesson company manufactures the compact revolvers from its earliest days. Even the history of the S&W Hand Ejector revolvers (initial name for all S&W guns with side-open cylinders) began with small-frame .32 Hand Ejector in 1896. This small gun had 6 rounds cylinder and was manufactured for some 80 years, and since introduction of the numbering system it was known as Model 30. Some other models, based on the same frame as .32 Hand Ejector (frame type "I"), were models Regulation Police (models 31 and 33, in .32 S&W Long and .38 Spl, respectively), Terrier (model 32, in .38 Spl), and some others. Since the 1961 those models were manufactured on the "J"-frame, which was introduced in the 1950 with the S&W Chiefs special revolver (model 36, .38 Spl caliber). Models 30 - 33 were dropped from manufacture in the mid-1970s.

Chiefs Special.. The story of the modern S&W compact revolvers began in 1950, when S&W introduced its first "J"-frame revolver - a Chiefs Special model in .38 Spl caliber. It was compact, Double Action, all steel revolver with side-open cylinder. Cylinder capacity was 5 rounds, and barrel lenght was 2 or 3 inches. Chiefs Special was intended as a police back-up or concealment gun, and also as a compact self-defence gun. S&W Chiefs Special revolver quickly become wery popular and still is one of the most common compact revolvers. It also spawned a wide variety of other compact revolvers, based on the same frame of the "J-type" nomenclature.

Got it for a song.. My first J-Frame.. sigh

Shift..

On duty today.. Keep checking in though.. I got posts ready to go up! NEW PIG Pic, and pictures from the Survival Class I taught last month!

Only 3 shifts left as a Volunteer!

WTF??

Yes, that's an ATF Agent with with Pistol stuck in his ear.. Brilliant.
That's almost as good as the DEA Agent who shoots himself..

Yea, these are the PROFESSIONALS who, according to Hillary "Hilter" Clinton, should be the ONLY poeple able to own, or carry a firearm..

Horseshit.

2 Years this week..

Wow..

2 years ago I started writing this thing? Jeez, where does the time go?

Anyway, "Happy Birthday" to my Blog!

Job Offer..

So I have been "Un-employed" since June. During that time I worked 1 - 2 Volunteer Shifts at the Fire Dept each week, plus, I am one of the lead instructors for the districts CPR program. My hope was the Chief would notice my hard work, and pick me up as a Part-Time Paid Firefighter, (I tested last year and was 4th or 5th on the list.)

This morning, bright and early, the phone rang. I was offered, and quickly accepted an offer as a Part time paid firefighter for the Dept I have Volunteered with for the last 3 years. I start Nov 1.

Hard work does pay off! This was my goal for 2006.. Next goal, FULL TIME UNION FIREFIGHTER!!

Favorite Spoof..

Oh gawd I love this MasterCard Card Spoof!

MasterCard Card Spoof..

Tip of the Week..

I've decided to add a new weekly post to my blog.. This will forever be known as the "Tip of the Week". It will mostly deal with backpacking/Wilderness living/Survival things, but if I make a particularly grievous mistake during the week, I may pass that along as a "don't do what I did" sort of thing.

So.. What is my first tip of the week?

"When headed out into a wilderness area, GET A MAP OF THE AREA AND COMPASS!"

This may sound somewhat silly if the area is only 1 square mile, you could technically walk out in ANY direction and get to a property boundary in 20 minutes.. But what if you have a Bay on one side, and an ocean on the other.. AND no compass? You could actually walk in circles for a full day and never know it!

AND NO.. A GPS DOESN'T COUNT! I have been out on missions with other Rescuers who didn't even know how to turn their freakin GPS on.. This is because they are SOOOOO good with a map and compass, they have NEVER needed the GPS. (Funny thing is, they are actually faster than the GPS!) And GPS units don't always work.. Depending on canopy coverage/thickness, you may never get a satellite lock.

Searches..

So we drove 2.5 hours out to the coast last night.. Cold, rain, wind.. Search Weather.

Slept for about 2-3 hours in the rescue rig, cramped and cold.

Got up for a briefing..
SUBJECT IS:
6' 2" 140 lbs
Sandy Black hair
Grey or blue Sweater
Silver or Navy Vest
Hiking boots or Tennis Shoes

He was actually 5' 8" - 120 pounds, and was wearing plaid.. Gotta love that great intel!

He was found and we got back home about 3:30 pm.. I lost a whole day of playin with my new knife!

PIG Pic.. Kind of.

So, my first PIG Pic since my return is not a Gun at all.. It's a knife. Not just any knife. This is a knife that you can trust, a knife you can count on, a knife you can bet your life on, a knife that cost as much as a gun.

Allow me to introduce you to the Busse Heavy Heart Fusion Steel Heart.

Oh.. I love her. She is currently being shipped to me.

OK, the specs..

  • 5/16" INFI Steel
  • 8" Blade
  • 14" OAL
  • 58-60 RC Differentially Tempered!
  • Introduced in October 2004
  • $407

So very very nice..

WTF..?

So I went to REI tonight with some of the guys from the SAR team. The whole purpose was this Clinic they were putting on.. "Wilderness Survival".

Oh..

My..

Gawd..

They brought in this "Special" guest instructor who is supposed to be some sort of a Survival Expert. I wouldn't trust that guy leading a bunch of Girl Scouts through a Grocery Store! He made SEVERAL mistakes that are just crazy.. He lost all credibility.. Then he started telling us about Search and Rescue.. And he was wrong about that too! Stuff that was wrong in ANY book..

ARRRRGGGGGGGGG...

Jericho?

So North Korea has tested a second Nuclear Weapon.

If you haven't started thinking about building a fallout shelter, or at least keeping a supply of food and water in a safe room, you really should start. This situation is going to get alot worse before it gets better.

If you haven't been watching the New Series "Jericho" give it a watch. It'll make you think.

Pin Up..

Here ya go..

Wow..

It has been almost a year since I blogged.. That sucks!

I'll try to start postin again!

I finished working for the State in June.. It was great right up to the end, then it sucked.. HARD! Lot's of immoral and unethical behavior there. Too bad.

I am really into knives for SAR right now. I teach wilderness survival, and was given the opportunity to use a Busse Heavy Heart in one of my classes. I knew they were good knives, but didn't believe that they were worth the $400 price tag.. I was wrong. I just sent a check for $407 for a new Busse Heavy Heart Fusion Steel Heart. It's soooooo sweet.

I am in love..

AND.. The wife is pregnant. And if I find the guy.. HAHAHAHAHAHA. We are excited.
The kids will be 8 years apart, wonder if that's gonna be a good thing or what..
