OK, so my wife, and one of my best friends are both Springfield XD Elitist Snobs. I, on the other hand, am a HUGE fan of the trusty 1911 - A1. It is my choice for a duty weapon, carry weapon, and in general, my baby!
As the name implies, the
1911 was brought into the Army's arsenal in 1911. That's right boys and girls, almost 100 years! The design was created by the Great infallible Genius, John Moses Browning.
Specs on the Springfield Armory GI Model 1911 - A1:
- Caliber: .45 ACP
- Capacity: 7+1
- Barrel: 5", 1:16 LH
- Sights: low-profile military
- Sight Radius: 6.25"
- Size: 36 oz., 8.5" overall length
- Trigger Pull: 5 to 6 lbs.
- MSRP: $502.00
It was officially retired from military service in 1985, when it was replaced by the 9mm Beretta 92F (M9). The Marines resisted this change over, only doing it when it was ordered to by Congress. It should be noted that the Spec Ops Team, have gone with side arms either chambered in the .45 acp cartridge, or are a modified M1911.
Just pure love...
